That photo above is of a humpback whale with her calf cruising around Sydney Harbour a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately, I didn’t take that photo…I had no idea about this. I would have KILLED to see that. Oh well. The SMH has the story, complete with a spokesmen from the Department of Environment saying that this must mean the harbour is clean. Sure.
Meanwhile, up in Byron Bay things are getting a bit insane as far as marine life goes; a great white has been stalking surfers and feeding on a whale carcass just 100 metres off the beach.
Then just eleven days later in the same area…

Those poor girls had to climb up onto The Wreck to avoid a shark in Byron Bay. According to the article there have been over 30 shark sightings in Byron in the past month. What kind of people are still getting in the water there? Hippies.
Then just a few days ago this photo was snapped from a helicopter over Byron…

Article and photo credit here. Nuts.
Leaving the water for the backyards of Perth, this article points out that there has been a dramatic increase in snake attacks on pets in the city. My favourite piece of advice from the article:
Myth: Broken eggshells around the inside of your house will keep snakes out. Keeping the windows and doors shut are much more likely to keep snakes out of the house.
Thanks Captain Obvious.
