The Mess Hall Win The AMP 2007

Yesterday afternoon some shiny people gathered at the MCA on Sydney Harbour to announce the winner of The AMP 2007 Award. Modeled after the Polaris/Shortlist/Mercury/whatever Awards in other countries, The AMP is designed to reward and bring attention to excellent Australian records that fly under the mainstream radar.
The winners for 2007 are, somewhat surprisingly, The Mess Hall for their album Devils Elbow (a record I still haven’t heard…I suck). I totally had the Midnight Juggernauts locked up for the win, so I was pleasantly surprised when one of Australia’s best live bands won the $25,000 cash.
So congrats to The Mess Hall. They’re going on a pretty massive tour in April/May including some dates opening up for Foo Fighters on their Australian excursion. All the details here.

It sounds like a great initiative and Mess Hall are probably one of the better and more underrated bands doing the rounds. Congrats to them!

Great site. I’m about to join you as an expat in Australia. I’ve been looking around for Australian bands to feature on my music site. I will definitely check these guys out. Would love to get other suggestions if you have any?
I’m going to blogroll you to remind me to check back – also like your list of Australian music bloggers – a great resource. If you have a chance, come over and check out my site.
All the best,
Chris

For a two-piece The Mess Hall know how to fill a room with sound.
