AMP 2007 Shortlist
A couple nights ago here in Sydney a bunch of industry-types got toegether for the announcement of the AMP 2007 Shortlist. This is the third year for the award (previous winners: The Drones, Augie March) which seeks to reward the finest Australian album released the previous year (hence the AMP 2007 Award being awarded well into 2008).
The nominees for the $25,000 prize this year are:
Architecture In Helsinki – Places Like This
Urthboy – Signal
The Mess Hall – Devils Elbow
Midnight Juggernauts – Dystopia
Perry Keyes – Last Ghost Train Home
Dardanelles – Mirror Mirror
Lisa Miller – Morning In The Bowl Of Night
Bluejuice – Problems
New Buffalo – Somewhere, Anywhere
Devastations – Yes, U
Kind of an odd list I thought…I was VERY surprised The Panics’ Cruel Guards didn’t make the cut as it was so widely praised last year. Ned Collette is another I thought would maybe get some recognition. I’m embarrassed by how few of those records I’ve heard and I’m kinda worried Midnight Juggernauts are going to win it. The winner will be announced on March 13.
Who do you think deserves the cash? Who should have made the shortlist?

Dardanelles are a dark horse but I’d love to see them win. Jugs is the obvious favourite but dunno if the oldie critics will dig. Devastations have a good chance
