Stars Announce Australian Tour

Montreal’s Stars will be making their way to Australia for the first time ever early next year. So far there are only two confirmed dates:
Feb 27 – Spectrum, Sydney
Feb 28 – East Brunswick Club, Melbourne
However it seems like a Laneway appearance is also in the works. This is extra good news for Broken Social Scene fans since that means Kevin Drew, Feist, and Stars will all be at the same festival which should mean some good old fashioned Canadian instrument swapping. I’ve not seen Stars in four or five years now so I’m pretty excited about this tour. This also reminds me I need to give their latest album more spins…

Thanks to Geoff and Sean for the heads up.
Somewhat related…be sure to check out this recent Kevin Drew/Broken Social Scene show on NPR.
Kind of somewhat related…Canada is a Download Haven.
Totally unrelated…tomorrow morning (Thursday) the 2008 V Festival lineup will be announced. Radiohead will not be on it. Polaroids has the rumoured lineup…which is pretty blah. Except JAMC.
This year the V Festival has expanded to four cities. The dates are:
March 29 – Sydney
March 30 – Gold Coast
April 5 – Melbourne
April 6 – Perth

Well I know noone cares but can I just point out that Stars, Feist, Kevin Drew and the Laneway Festival are all over 18 and due to the priority of a bar over any 16/17 year olds who love music just as much as any 18 year old, we’ll never be able to experience the rare Australian phenomena of seeing the Arts & Crafts bands performing together.
That and the V Festival, Beirut, Explosions in the Sky to name a few more. Its all just…depressing. I just can’t believe I won’t be able to see this.

Hey Sophie.
I do know it sucks for minors…it’d be great if it was more financially feasible for international bands to play more all-ages gigs.
i know it’s of little solace now but we’ve all been in your position. in a few years when i’m too old to care about going to gigs you’ll be seeing a ton of great bands that i’ll be missing out on.
