Sigur Rós – Heima Trailer

Alright, the first of two Sigur Ros updates that I’m incredibly stoked about.
While the band may not be quite ready to release a new album, more details are emerging about various other projects that the beloved Icelandic quartet are set to release over the last half of 2007. As I first mentioned way back in January and April, Sigur Ros will be releasing a film that documents their 2006 summer tour of their native Iceland (tour diary here). I nearly booked a plane ticket to Iceland after watching this thing. Iceland = Stunning

The film is called Heima and it will be released in November but you can watch the ridiculously beautiful trailer for it now. This looks like the type of film that even non-Sigur Ros fans may want to watch. I’ve watched this thing over and over and I still get chills. I HIGHLY recommend you watch the hi-res version at the official site for the film here. But if you must here’s the YouTubed version:
The song playing in the trailer is an old song called Lagið í gær which the band have FINALLY recorded but more on that in the next Sigur update.

I’d kill someone to see this film in IMAX.

I just came.
Seriously, that is some of the most stunning imagery I’ve seen in a doco and just compliments the music so well. I’ll definitely be there opening day to see this if it’s released in theatres, IMAX and/or on HD-DVD.

I’m pretty sure it’s going straight to DVD.
I totally agree James…the imagery and cinematography are absolutely brilliant.

Couldn’t agree more – this is one of the most visually stunning trailers I’ve ever seen. I can’t even imagine how mindblowing the actual film will be. Sigur Ros’ music is so vast, and yet somehow they’ve managed to capture that beauty in some pretty desolate settings (I’m speaking mostly of the interior shots-the landscapes are breathtaking). I can’t wait to see this band live again.

Sigur Ros have always had amazing videos so this is no surprise.
Can’t wait!

Is lagið í gær audio track available anywhere? I mean the full length studio track? It’s so obscene that I am playing the trailer like a song, you know..

The film played at the AFI in Los Angeles this weekend. Awesome experience and a great crowd!! Too bad I missed their concert. Whoever digs Sigur Ros should get it. It’s a great complement to the documentary “Screaming Masterpiece” (w/Bjork, Sigur Ros, Mum…) that came out earlier this year and gives a broad overview of the Icelandic music scene. Go Iceland!!
