Ryan Adams Easy Tiger Preview

I was pretty stoked when Pitchfork reported on Easy Tiger, Ryan Adams’ forthcoming album to be released June 5. After releasing three records in 05, then touring quite a bit in 06, it seemed inevitable that 2007 would see a new record. At this point it’s unclear whether this record will be billed as Ryan Adams or Ryan Adams & The Cardinals; the latter is likely as they did play on the record.
As usual with Ryan, the record features a lot of stuff that he’s been playing live for the past year or so and since he’s pro-taping (most shows get recorded by fans through the soundboard) there are tons of versions of many of the songs off the record available on the net. While the tracklisting hasn’t been sequenced yet, the album will include the following songs. Songs in red = downloadable.
Goodnight Rose
Everybody Knows
The Sun Also Sets
Halloween Head
Off Broadway
Two Hearts
Tears of Gold
These Girls
Two
I Taught Myself How to Grow Old
Oh My God, Whatever, Etc.
Rip Off
Pearls on a String
If you want to download the complete shows that the files above were taken from check out the Live Music Archive here and here. In addition, Off Broadway is actually on one of the numerous ‘lost’ Ryan Adams albums, The Suicide Handbook and has only been played live once. You can download that show here.
What’s more, there are some great songs Ryan and the Cardinals have been playing live that are not included on the record (unless they’ve undergone unrecognizable name changes). These could very likely show up on another record to be released later in the year. Or they may never see the light of day. You never know with this guy. Some of my favourites of these below.
Download:
Don’t Get Sentimental On Me (whole show)
Lighthouses (whole show)
Everything Dies (whole show)
Breakdown Into the Resolve (whole show)
Party Clown (whole show)
So there you go. A taste of what’s to come in June. Huge thanks to all the tapers, the Live Music Archive, and Ryan for allowing the taping.

The track labeled as “Judy Garland (She Turns It Up To 10)” is really “Party Clown.” Still agreat song though!

Hi,
I’m a new Ryan Adams fan. Can you tell me if the songs in general will have more of the alt country feel (ala cold roses and jacksonville city nights) or do they go down one of his other divergent musical paths. I like all his material, but enjoy the more country sounding tracks best.
Thanks.

hey dan,
most of the new stuff seems to be of the alt-country feel rather than the rock n roll feel. so you should enjoy it.

Don’t forget Arkham Asylum, my personal favorite of his new songs to be left off the album. Also, Trouble on Wheels

What? No Blue Hotel? That’s the best one not listed here imho…also, what about “Hello Gracie” ?

Ryan Adam’s performance on the Henry Rollins Show was PHENOMINAL. I LOVE his more greatful dead sound.

‘Blue Hotel’ can be found on Willie Nelson’s ‘Songbird’ record- and I am bummed as well that ‘Hello Gracie’ won’t make the cut on this album. I’ve heard in rumours that this album has a soul feel to it- which is fantastic.

I’m tellin you, it has been awhile since there has been an artist release this many quality albums so quickly – this guy is loaded with talent. The best singer song-writer for his generation.

Actually, the version with 14 tracks seems to be avaliable on amazon.co.uk only! Does anybody know anything about this?

Any advice on when the best time to see Ryan play would be? I just went to see him two weeks ago in Morgantown, WV, and in spite of my undying love..the broken arm and quiet disposition left for a short and unsatisfing show. Should I skip the summer tour, and wait for the fall? Hell, maybe I’ll go to both.

Atlanta is always a good show. Several encores, some where it’s just Ryan. Avoid the Chicago shows, he makes the fans suffer there.
