Draw Us Lines

Up at 6:30am, on Blackcomb mountain by 10am, home at 5:30pm, Constantines on at 11pm. It was one hell of a long day and it is a testament to the intensity of the Constantines live show that they made me completely forget about the pain in my right leg (snowboarding injury it seems) for the entire length of their show. It was about 30 seconds into the opener “Draw Us Lines” that I began to regret not seeing them on their numerous previous Vancouver appearances over the past couple years. The song set the tone for a very loud, raucus set that spanned all three of the Cons’ albums.
The university crowd wasn’t super huge, but those that were there seemed to worship the stage the band was playing on. Sing-alongs, requests (ignored), and the highest pitch shrieking I have ever heard (and I teach teenagers) all greeted the Cons throughout their hour-plus set. I had heard much about how great the Constantines are live and I was told I would be converted by then end of the set. I wasn’t in need of conversion anyway, but it only took two songs for me to be sold on this band. Other than the opening “Draw Us Lines” other highlights for me were “Shine a Light” and the huge, stomping “Lizaveta.” The Cons are perhaps the most criminally underrated band in Canada. If they come your way make sure you check them out as I highly doubt you will be disappointed.
Thanks to Shea for putting on the show and getting me a setlist. Speaking of which, here is Quinn displaying his setlist which was spit-free, unlike mine. Make sure you check out Quinn’s thoughts on the show. It was great to see you both again.

And here are some Constantines downloads for you (not from the show last night):
Download: Soon Enough (from Tournament of Hearts)
Download: Love in Fear (from Tournament of Hearts)
