Laura Imbruglia – Tear Ducts

I saw Laura Imbruglia open for Dappled Cities Fly way back in February. I don’t remember much now of her performance but I’m pretty sure she was playing without a band and she was rather loud for such a small person. Well nearly a year later and she has released her debut self-titled album. I’ve yet to hear the whole thing but I’ve been really enjoying ‘Tear Ducts.’ Part country lament, part indie pop, part catchy chorus, it’s got a little something for everyone.

You can purchase her album through Waterfront Records (though Laura is on Chatterbox Records) and you may even get a signed poster. As I was poking around her official site I learned that Laura Imbruglia has damn good taste in nearly everything: she loves Radiohead and Bob Dylan but does not love Jet or Metallica fans; she loves Degrassi and Christopher Guest and Perfume but could do without Ian Thorpe’s clothing line and George W. Bush. I’d get along with this young woman.
She doesn’t seem to have any Sydney/Australia shows scheduled at this point as she just finished a tour launching the album, but I’m sure she’ll be playing around Sydney in the not too distant future.

Go be Laura’s friend on MySpace.
(And yes, she is the younger sister of Natalie Imbruglia. And yes, I still think that Torn song is pretty damn good.)

That Torn song, as you put it, still knocks me off my feet everytime I happen to hear it. I’m not overly fond of too commercial music out there, but that song is something else altogether. The video and the way she looks in it wasn’t done to look away either. Oh well…

I agree on Torn, great commercial pop. Didn’t realise at the time that it was a cover.
I saw Laura Imbruglia opening for the Eels about six years ago and wasn’t especially impressed, but she might be better now.

torn was a cover? Aw man… I just lost all the respect I had for Natalie. Good thing her sister’s got the stuff too.
