Decemberists::Architecture in Helsinki::Etc

When reading blogs through the week I tend to bookmark some posts to link here in bits and pieces. But I’m lazy right now, so here’s some stuff you should check out on the internets.
Watch Out For:
The Good, The Bad and The Queen will be releasing their debut single at the end of the month. Who is this band you say? Damon Albarn (Blur/Gorillaz), Paul Simonon (The mutherfuckin Clash), Simon Tong (Verve/Blur/Gorillaz), and Tony Allen (Fela Kuti’s band). If you need more than that to be at least intrigued you are dead to me. Check out the clips on the site for some teases.
Download:
B(oot)log has a recent Architecure in Helsinki XFM radio session up for download. Check it here. And just a question for my Aussie friends. Do AiH hate Australia? They haven’t played Sydney once since I moved here yet they’ve played Vancouver at least twice since I left. What gives?
Not only did Mocking Music review a very recent Beirut show, but also recorded it and uploaded it. Score. Off topic, when I was back home in July I was very surprised/pleased to see that a friend of a friend (well a friend really) actually went out and bought Gulag Orkestar because I wrote about it here. People actually read this crap! Hope you’re doing well Stacey!
If you still haven’t heard Beirut: Postcards From Italy
Read:
Drowned In Sound have begun counting down their Top 66 Albums of the last 6 years. Howling Bells….really?
Watch:
The Decemberists playing ‘O Valencia!’ on Conan this week:
Be sure to pick up The Crane Wife as it is fantastic.
Self Promotion:
Some friends back in Vancouver have started a new online music magazine called Streethawk. They’re all very passionate about music and they’re good writers so be sure to check it out (even if you’re not from Vancouver). I’ll probably be writing things for them from time to time as well but don’t let that dissuade you from bookmarking the ‘Hawk.
And finally, in the current issue of Mess & Noise you can find a photo of Bluebottle Kiss by me (under my codename “A Crowd Fan”). Published photgrapher just went on my resume/CV. Dan Boud watch out!
Lots of gigs tonight in Sydney (MSTRKRFT, Dappled Cities Fly, Rogers Sisters/Young and Restless/I Heart Hiroshima) so hopefully you’re seeing something. We’re off to see Telecom tear up the Hoey.

I started listening to Beirut because of this blog Sean. I don’t bother downloading most things off of the music blogs I read, but I do download music when the blog author puts a special effort in to promoting a particular band (like you with Beirut and The Grates and Quinn with Final Fantasy).
So thanks!
P.S. The Canucks are 2-0!!! Yeah!

I dont think AIH hate australia coz i saw em last year during august at the metro and they always do send-off gigs in melbourne b4 they go overseas. Did you know that they’re only 6 now! AIH just wont be the same without tara and isobel. Love ur work mate!

i think your comments regarding AiH are spot on.
sadly i dont think enough aussies embraced them the way we should hav! too busy worrying about end of fashion and eskimoe joe has let some quality slip through the cracks.
and just like the ideal lover, when other people spied AiH coming they said thankyou very much and invited em in for tea and scones!!! (extra cream)
