25 for 2009: Nine

Album #9: Face Control by Handsome Furs
Face Control helped a lot in the recovery after the (relative) disappointment that was At Mount Zoomer. As I (and others I’m sure) said back in May:
This record sounds like the bastard Soviet lovechild of Bruce Springsteen and New Order.
One of the most addictive records of 2009.

Song #9: These Are My Twisted Words by Radiohead
Since the release of In Rainbows in 2007, Radiohead have continued to explore the internet as a delivery device for new music. This past summer they released These Are My Twisted Words for free, simply because it was finished. John Lennon was famously quoted as saying that music should be like newspapers (which I know is a silly comparison now but the idea is still applicable) in that songs should be available immediately after they are written and recorded (something he achieved with Instant Karma!). Radiohead, in this case at least, have taken John’s words to heart. Oh yeah, the song is dark and kinda spooky and totally awesome.
