Dappled Cities cover Animal Collective, themselves

With the impending release of Zounds rapidly approaching, Dappled Cities are currently in full on assault mode. This past week the band stopped by Triple J for a Like A Version session where they played an acoustic version of current single The Price as well as a pretty solid take on Animal Collective’s My Girls. You can download the entire session complete with the interview here or stream it here. Or if you just want the songs…

In addition to that, the band have also re-recorded their old song The Birds in the style of Neu! in honour of the release of Brand Neu!, a compilation featuring School Of Seven Bells, Sonic Youth (as Ciccone Youth), Oasis, Primal Scream, Fujiya & Miyagi and others. Dappled are not actually on the compilation…so consider this their contribution, I suppose.

I always get mixed up with whether dappled cities, and dappled cities fly are different bands.
I’m still not sure.
“fire, fire, fire” is probably my favorite song.
It reminds me of the arcade fire instrumentally, and somehow of Coldplay mixed with the last shadow puppets for vocals.

same band. they have officially dropped the “fly” from their name now, however.

“The Birds” is exclusive to the Australian digital release on ‘Brand NEU!’
The Australian-exclusive digital version also includes tracks from Wolf & Cub and Decoder Ring

I really like this cover, and I really like the new Dappled Cities single The Prize. Tim told me a few weeks ago that it was there best selling single ever in Australia, perhaps this will be Dappled Cities’ best record yet.
