Mogwai @ Enmore Theatre, Sydney

No time. Quick review.
Mogwai were….pretty good. The great parts were reallllllly great (see: every song with three guitars) but the more recent selections that feature more piano are less engaging live. But yeah, Summer blew my face off. As did Like Herod. Batcat was also incredibly nasty and ear-shattering. And ending the night with Mogwai Fear Satan was pretty much the perfect ending to any gig ever.
Setlist

Mogwai Fear Satan
Bonus points if you could make out Barry’s improvised “Bogan trainers” vocals during Hunted By A Freak.
Also, is it just me or are Beaches pretty fucking awesome? Last night was the second time I’ve seen them live in the last six weeks or so and both times I’ve really enjoyed their sets. A couple photos from the gig here.
Wayne has a more comprehensive review up. And last but not least, Sydney’s Most Prolific Taper recorded the gig and you can download it here.

i thought the setlist was pretty shitty. too many songs that sound alike and have same dynamics. if you compare that to mogwai’s concert i saw in 2001 or 2002, it was quite weak. but then again, I like their older stuff, like 2 rights, helicon 2, ithica, christmas steps, etc.
hunted, cody, summer, like herod and batcat were good. batcat was the best. and mogwai fear satan is always moving, even without the flute part.
