Broken Social Scene @ 2008 Laneway Festival, Sydney

Oh my.
The last time Broken Social Scene played Laneway it was a huge letdown after their epic gig at the Metro. I was a bit worried about a similar experience yesterday as I loved their gig at Manning Bar last week. But Broken Social Scene absolutely p3wned Laneway yesterday. As far as I’m concerned no one else even came close.
Accompanied by Feist, Amy Millan, Evan Cranley, Torquil Campbell, members of Feist’s bands and assorted others, we pretty much got the full-on, beautifully chaotic BSS lineup. The energy and passion displayed on stage during the set was incredible and the performances were just as memorable. While last week’s show as a bit sloppy at times, at Laneway the band were tight tight tight.
The performance of 7/4 (Shoreline), in particular, was jaw-droppingly awesome. Feist and Amy Millan alternated verses. Their were about a billion horn players. Everyone was going nuts. It was perhaps one of my very favourite live performances ever. Major Label Debut was another highlight…hell the whole set was. If you were there you know what I’m talking about. Cherish that performance…you will never see it again.

I nearly passed out at BSS. They were that good. I loved Shoreline, but Ibi just blew my mind. They should have got rid of Gotye and had this band close with a two hour set set.

Best live band going around at the moment. I was absolutely floored by their laneway set.
And I completely agree with Wayne’s comment about having them close the festival. I left after Feist so I could get a decent night’s sleep
