A Canadian Hat Trick

Age of Consent is one of my favourite New Order songs. How the hell was it never a single? Anyway, Pitchfork have provided an mp3 of Kevin Drew performing the song during a recent session for Fair Game.

Kevin Drew’s bandmate in Broken Social Scene Andrew Whiteman has also been busy this year, including covering other people’s work with his band Apostle Of Hustle. You Ain’t No Picasso has this cover of the Huey Lewis “classic” (and I use that term loosely) I Want A New Drug.

Some Canadians that actually are not in a band with Kevin Drew are Black Mountain. Hailing from my hometown of Vancouver, Black Mountain are the centre of mini-universe of bands much like BSS. They will be releasing a new record next year and Jagjaguwar has the first official mp3 from the record up for download. Do you like your rock music dark and heavy?

And back here in Australia, the V Festival officially announced it’s preliminary lineup for the 2008 fest. The rumours (at least the second batch of rumours I saw) were spot on:
The Smashing Pumpkins, Duran Duran, Queens of the Stone Age, Mika, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Presets, Air, CSS, The Tough Alliance, and Plug In City.
Is it just me, or is that a REALLY weird mix of bands? Mika and Air will only be performing on the east coast dates so check the site for all the details. Tickets on sale next week. I will not be getting one.
