OK, this post will likely be updated a number of times over the next day or so. To start we have the debut performance of ‘Bangers ‘n’ Mash.’ The song is pretty rawk and features Thom on drums!

So if you haven’t been able to tell so, Radiohead are my favourite band (I’ll even be seeing them in LA at the end of June on my way home for a visit). Tonight the band started their summer tour at the KB Hallen in Copenhagen, Denmark. The band played seven new songs as well as two songs they hadn’t played since the end of the OK Computer tour in 1998. One of them, ‘Let Down,’ being one many fans (myself included) have been waiting for them to bust out again. The setlist is below. Hopefully I’ll be able to post some mp3s later today or tomorrow.

Tonight marked the opening night of Rebel Rebel at the Home nightclub in Darling Harbour. This new weekly night is meant to bring bands, artists, and DJs of all genres for an all-night party. And while ticket sales were less than stellar the place was filled with people who got free passes. Like me. Always a bonus. That said I really love the new Liars album, so I wasn’t just there to be there. As for the show…well Liars were intense. The best moments for me generally centered around the drums…hardly surprising given the title and sound of their new record. But with a proper drummer and an extra half-kit the drums filled the room. Lead singer Angus Andrew also let us know his parents and sibilings were in attendance. I wonder what mum makes of his music? What I found most suprising was how well songs from their last two albums worked together in one show. They ended their set with a cover of Nirvana’s Territorial Pissings.

Perth band Snowman opened the show and were intriguing enough to make me want to check them out some more. While they are more accessible than Liars they certainly seemed to be a good choice to open as far as sound goes. Sweden’s Shout Out Louds followed and I was really impressed with them. I hadn’t heard a note of their music before but knew the name and was really surprised. They also featured Obligatory Hot Keyboardist.

Question: Are there any ugly women in Sweden?
Answer: I don’t think so.

I had a great night so hopefully Rebel Rebel is able to keep up booking great bands and people buy the tickets.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news fellas, but I can’t keep this from you.

Patience wants me. During the last song (‘Inside Outside’…also my favourite song off the record) at the Metro last night, Patience and I shared a moment. It was obvious to everyone in the sold out room. She looked right down at me and sang TO me. She reached for me. But our hands never quite touched. It was cosmic. So Patience, call me. We can make this work.

The rest of the show was absolutely fantastic. As anyone who has seen them will tell you, The Grates fill any room they’re in with so much joy. Patience never stops smiling and telling silly stories, Alana bounces around on the drums like a five year old, and John bangs out the tunes on his guitar. The set consisted of everything off Gravity Won’t Get You High (except maybe ‘Nothing Sir’…I don’t quite remember) as well as ‘Wash Me’ and ‘A Message’ from the EP. The show opened with the energetic ‘Seek Me’ and then continued on a similar plain of energy for the entire hour long show. The stage was decked out in silver party tinsel stuff while confetti and about 500 balloons also made an appearance. You must get out and see this band if you haven’t already.

I Heart Hiroshima and The Panda Band opened the show. I Heart Hiroshima were pretty cool…their drummer is a bit insane (which is par for the course really). The Panda Band failed to grab me…they seemed to be trying to be Modest Mouse a bit too hard at times.

New Radiohead anyone? The bootlegs are starting to come in…sort of. This clip of Bodysnatchers is just the audio ripped off the longer video clip of the song (also posted below). Not bad considering Thom and Jonny only got off the Koko stage a few hours ago.

UPDATE: I have taken down the short mp3 clips and replaced them with complete recordings of the new songs and Gagging Order. Once I get a solid copy of the whole show I will post it. Enjoy for now! And I think these songs are fantastic now that I’ve heard complete versions!!

I’m slow. So it wasn’t until last week after reading about Voxtrot on a blog for the billionth time that I finally decided to check them out. And I’m glad I did because I can’t stop listening to their EPs. The band hail from the Texas oasis of Austin and have released just two EPs over the past half year or so (check out Pitchfork for some very positive reviews). The band write concise indie/pop/rock songs with some pretty great lyrics:

I’m a bitter man, I know,
But listen, honey, you’re no fun

So I realllly encourage you to check out Voxtrot if you haven’t done so already.

So tomorrow/today Radiohead return. Two years to the day since their last gig at Coachella Thom and Jonny will be playing a benfit gig for The Big Ask. As soon as I have a setlist and mp3s I will post them here…so look out for that.

The latest rumoured North American date is for New York City. It looks like June 13 and 14 at the Madison Square Garden Theatre (via At Ease). In addition the Toronto gig looks to be happening at the Hummingbird Centre a few days before that. The band should be announcing all the dates/ticket info in a day or two.

And since Thom and Jonny are playing an acoustic show I’ve got the last acoustic show the two of them played together. In December 2003 they played a great little set at Maida Vale. It’s a radio broadcast so the sound is great, but the setlist is even better. The unreleased ‘Follow Me Around’ and (the now rare) ‘Bulletproof’ definitely make this set special.
